This
website was created as an archive for the Captain Soma adventures,
which have
so far been written. The character was created in the fall of
2002 when,
on a whim, I decided to see if I could create my own unique literary
character
within the Star Trek universe. Noticing several fan-fiction authors had
already
created a number of well-written characters of their own; I wanted to
give it a
try.
I chose to base my character in the Enterprise era universe;
since it
proved the most challenging, having so much canon material to keep
in
order. I've tried to keep the character as faithful to the established
canon
even though he exists outside of it. Below are the major canon
points
I've tried to keep faithful in the stories I've written and the
background I've
created for the character.
Captain Soma is the half Vulcan/half Human son of the Enterprise
NX-01's
chief Engineer, Charles 'Trip' Tucker III and the ship's science
officer and
first officer, T'Pol. Both of these characters, it has long been
suggested, will come together romantically. My character is merely the
logical
(pun intended) outcome of that romance. I have also made the claim that
Ambassador Soval is Soma's grandfather and of course, T'Pol's father.
This has
not been refuted or confirmed, but is suggested in the Enterprise
episodes.
Soma
may or may not be the first Human/Vulcan hybrid, but he does precede
Spock, who
has never been established as the first Human/Vulcan hybrid. I do
suggest that
Soma is the first Vulcan to graduate from Starfleet Academy. This
distinction
is often given to Spock, but it has never been established as canon.
He has an extremely long career in Starfleet (150+ years), which
made it possible
for him to meet and interact with a number of well-known canon
characters and
events such as James T. Kirk and the ill fated loss of the starship Intrepid.
Soma's current posting is captain of the Ambassador-class heavy cruiser, U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-C, until succeeded by his first officer, Commander Rachel Garrett. Since it hasn't been established whether or not the Enterprise-C had a captain prior to Garrett, I found it to be an open playing field from which to base my character; a grown man and seasoned Starfleet officer, who has several adventures with the crew of the first Starfleet vessel named Enterprise.
The character of Captain Soma has become incredibly popular among Enterprise fan-fiction readers and I am very pleased that the character and my stories have been so well received. This has in no small part to do with the very supportive and encouraging fan-fiction readers who have been gracious enough to embrace my character into their image of Star Trek. I wish to thank each of you for that.
